Picture for the essay fair or unfair treatment

http://www.learnnc.org/lp/media/uploads/2007/09/landing_of_columbus_1_450.jpg

This picture shows how the new settlers (columbus and his men) came to the "Indies". It bascically shows that they came with swords and traveled in groups. They way that Columbus and his men presented themselves scared the indians or "people from the Indies". The indians also scared Columbus. He was not used to their behavior and their customs and that is why he believed that he was miss treated and that they indians miss treated eachother. When in all actuallity that was just how they lived.

Yes this picture does not show how the Indians were treating eachother and Christopher and his men, but it does show how Columbus and his men entered this "new world". I think this picture shows in great detail how Columbus acted when he landed on the new land.

Fair or Unfair Treatment

Amanda Parker

Fair Or Unfair Treatment
In this passage there is a lot of argument about how Christopher Columbus was treated when he found the “Indies”. He talks about how he was miss treated by its people. He told the highnesses when he came back home that “it was always custom to give thanks”. (Christopher Columbus). With all this being said I think its safe to ask the question, was he really miss treated? Or was he just not used to their customs and how they treated each other?
Christopher tells the highnesses of how he “wept for the others“. He also clams how “ ruined he is from everything that happened”. When realistically nothing bad happened at all. He also talks about how ill treated everyone was there, not just him. He talks about how the land looked and how their ships looked.
The “ill treated people” were not being treated badly. Different people have different ways of how they act and how they are to be treated in certain groups. The people were simply acting the way they usually would’ve. There’s no doubt about it that the people of the “Indies” are not used to foreign visitors. This could be another reason why they acted the way they did. They had some one they never saw before come into their country, their land who wanted to explore it. They were simply just afraid of him.
The land and ships that the people created were from nature. This is why they looked the way they did. The land was untouched by any foreigners. The ships were created by the resources they had around them. Any and everything that these people had were natural. This is another reason why Christopher was confused. Yes in Europe they used things from nature, But it wasn’t like what the people of the “Indies” used. Christopher was used to having things treated for other items. Unlike the people of the “Indies” who only traded with each other if that. Christopher was used to trading and having food sent from different countries around him.
The treatment towards Christopher and the new world that surrounded him was something that he was not used to. This is the reason why he told the highnesses that he was miss treated. When in fact he was only treated how the people of the “Indies” treat themselves. He was not abused, hated or imprisoned. Yes the people of the “Indies” were mad that he entered their land and they didn’t know why. But there was no miss treatment of any kind.
Everyone in the situation was confused. There’s no doubt in my mind that the highnesses were confused about what supposedly happened to Christopher. Christopher was confused about the behavior of the new people he met and their life style. The people of the “Indies” were also confused about why this strange man came to their land and why he was exploring it. What happened to Christopher was a complete miss understanding that anyone can have. It’s one however that should be corrected.
